Hi, I’m Dr. Stephanie Bagby-Stone. My passion is providing high-quality, compassionate care for adolescents and adults who struggle with eating disorders, disordered eating or body image concerns.
Excellent psychiatric care requires so much more than medication management. My approach is very psychotherapeutic and highly influenced by the spirit of Positive Psychology. I see your strengths and courage, even as you suffer from shame, perfectionism, sadness, anxiety and eating disorder thoughts and behaviors. I want to help you regain your vitality and purpose.
As the only psychiatrist in Mid-Missouri who has attained the iaedp Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor certifications, I have experience teaching and working in all levels of eating disorder treatment including outpatient, IOP, PHP and residential care. Due to my strong foundation in college mental health, I am skillful and enjoy helping bright individuals find relief from a wide variety of emotional concerns. We will work together to find the most fitting treatment and team to support your healing.
Regardless of where you are in the recovery process. You are worthy of support and care now. Things can get much better. I look forward to getting to know you and assisting you in your journey to well-being.
Have you ever had a dream to create something to help people you care about?
Stephanie Bagby-Stone MD, DFAPA, CEDS-S
Dr. Bagby-Stone first dreamed of creating an eating disorder clinic as a young psychiatry faculty member working at a university student health center. In her years there, she learned much about college health and patient care by working with undergraduate, graduate and professional students struggling with conditions such as anxiety, OCD, PTSD, mood disorders and eating disorders. She also served as their Chief of Psychiatric Services.
With time, Dr. Bagby-Stone became disheartened by limitations placed on patient care in this setting. She wanted to be able to give more time to her patients and to collaborate more on their care. It became crystal clear to her that our community needed more eating disorder services at all levels and more eating disorder awareness for all healthcare professionals, educators, coaches, families and individuals.
With that intention in mind, Dr. Bagby-Stone has begun to fulfill her vision. First, through becoming the Medical Director of the McCallum Place Columbia Eating Disorder Treatment Center and working with her team to create its partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs. And now, by creating her own private outpatient clinic.
Stephanie specializes in helping eating disorders patients of all genders, body shapes and sizes, and diagnoses including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder and OSFED. She provides high-quality, compassionate care to her patients and can also educate and support loved ones and family members. Eating disorder treatment often requires a team approach. She can help you create your team or work with your existing care providers.
Dr. Bagby-Stone loves teaching what she is passionate about like psychotherapy, narrative, positive psychology and eating disorders, her role as an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at MU has allowed her to do so. She also has experience working with medical students and residents to improve their health and well-being.
As an active member of the Missouri Eating Disorder Council, she is able to fulfill another aspect of her vision by providing eating disorder consultation and education to healthcare providers, educators and other groups across the state.
And, even with accomplishing all this, Dr. Bagby-Stone still keeps dreaming and hoping to create more and do more to serve her patients, her community and to raise eating disorder awareness and decrease shame and stigma.

My Office
A few years ago, Dr. Bagby-Stone was reading an article online and stumbled across the concept of hygge. Hygge is a mood of coziness, comfort, friendliness, safety and contentment. It derives from a Danish word meaning “to give courage, comfort, joy”. This word perfectly sums up how she wants you to feel in her office. Her light-filled space with comfy furniture has a lovely view of the village square in Cherry Hill (including the Magic Tree). Here patients have the opportunity to share their story and feel heard, ask questions, discuss medical evaluations, collaborate in their care and envision their future.
Dr. Bagby-Stone provides new patient psychiatric evaluations and follow-up visits which can include medication management and psychotherapy. Patients are given the option of 30 or 50 minute follow-up visits. Due to her therapeutic style most patients choose the longer sessions.
In addition to providing high-quality patient-centered care, Dr. Bagby-Stone is available to provide eating disorder consultation, trainings, and speaking engagements. If you are pursuing Certification as an Eating Disorders Specialist, she is an iaedp™Approved Supervisor.
